Jongseong Ryu, Ph.D.

My research interests lie at the intersection of marine ecology and ocean policy, with a strong emphasis on the conservation and sustainable management of coastal and marine ecosystems. My work integrates scientific inquiry with practical policy application to address the complex dynamics of tidal flats and benthic ecosystems. One of my primary research focuses is the development of integrated diagnostic tools for assessing the ecological health of tidal flats. These ecosystems, rich in benthic biodiversity, are monitored using structural and functional indices, and modeled to predict future ecological changes across time and space.

I also serve as the lead researcher for Korea’s 2nd National Basic Plan for Marine Ecosystem Conservation and Management, where I analyze past and present marine ecosystem trends and proposes long-term strategies for the next decade.

In addition, I am committed to international cooperation. Through initiatives such as the Yellow Sea Ecosystem Society, I collaborate with scientists from China and seeks future partnerships with North Korean researchers to jointly assess and preserve the Yellow Sea tidal ecosystems.

Through these multidisciplinary and collaborative efforts, I aim to establish a robust scientific foundation for marine ecosystem conservation and translate this knowledge into effective environmental governance and policy implementation.
